OPALIA
The entire range of Opalia water heaters is characterized by extreme ease of use and reliable performance combined with a modern design and ease of use. The Opalia model is available in open chamber and sealed chamber versions, 11 or 14 litres, all equipped with electronic ignition with safety block in case of lack of pilot flame.
Characteristics:
- Modern design and compact size: the water heaters can be easily installed in any environment, even inside kitchen cabinets.
- Maximum safety: the safety thermostat intervenes in the event of overtemperature of the domestic hot water; the ionization flame control blocks the gas supply in the event of a lack of flame at the burner; in open chamber models, the smoke anti-backflow safety device blocks the water heater in case of risk of smoke being released into the environment.
- Electronic control (only for sealed chamber models) : it is possible to optimally adapt the operation of the appliance to the conditions of use and the temperature of the hot water, guaranteeing maximum sanitary comfort and optimizing gas consumption. Any operating anomalies are signaled on the LCD display.

1. ErP, Ecodesign and ELD . What do they mean and how do they differ?
- ErP and Ecodesign: The EU has issued new obligations for energy-using products (ErP). Known as the Ecodesign Directive, it prescribes minimum efficiency requirements and emission limits for heating and DHW production appliances up to 400 kW.
- ELD: In addition to the ErP Directive, the EU is also introducing mandatory energy labeling for the same type of appliances up to 70 kW. The Energy Labeling Directive (ELD) requires that new products and systems for heating and DHW production are labeled with an indication of their energy efficiency class.
2. Which products are affected by the new directives?
The Ecodesign Directive targets two product categories that are relevant to our installers and retailers.
- Category 1: includes electric, gas and oil-fired space heating appliances, combined boilers, heat pumps and cogenerators.
- Category 2: includes appliances for the production of electric, gas and oil-fired DHW, heat pumps for DHW and solar systems.
By combining these products and components, for example by adding a temperature control unit, the energy classification of the system can be increased, which will be calculated by the installer and indicated on the package label.
3. When will the new rules apply and how will they affect me?
A transition phase is currently underway which lasts until September 26, 2015, the day on which the new rules come into force. Until then, neither manufacturers nor retailers or installers need to comply with the new ecodesign or labeling provisions. Once the new rules come into force, only products that comply with the new ecodesign requirements and have an energy label will be able to be sold on the market.
4. What does this mean for me today?
Installers could play an even more important role than before. The new directives open up new opportunities for Hermann Saunier Duval partners on the provision of ErP support services and tools. Unlike household appliances, labels on heating and DHW systems can only offer a first orientation and will not necessarily provide the best solution for your customer, nor will they give any indication of the assumed energy cost when obtaining a high energy rating.
This is why customers will need your advice to understand the label and select the best product or system that best meets their needs.
Hermann Saunier Duval provides its partners with a software tool to be able to easily download all the labels of the products present in the price list and to be able to calculate in an easy and intuitive way the system labels that must be provided to the end customer during the offer or be displayed in the public display areas of retailers.
5. Why push condensation technology immediately?
Condensing products reach efficiency levels above 100% and allow gas savings of up to 30% per year. They are therefore environmentally friendly and savings-friendly products.
Condensing products are safe and extremely silent, efficient and easily adjustable with control units and thermostats, including wireless ones, ensuring the rooms always have the right temperature and maximum comfort.
For the energy requalification of individual homes, the 2007 Budget was extended until 31 December 2015. The request for a 65% tax deduction concerns, for example, the replacement of a traditional boiler with a condensing boiler.
